The Price of One Hour with Dad
One evening, Jack, a busy businessman, came home after a long, tiring day. As soon as he walked through the door, his 8-year-old son, Tommy, ran up to him.
"Dad, can I ask you something?" Tommy said, his big eyes full of curiosity.
Jack sighed, feeling exhausted. "What is it, Tommy?"
"Dad, how much do you make in an hour?"
Jack frowned. "Why do you want to know?" he asked.
"Please, Dad. Just tell me," Tommy insisted.
Jack sighed again and answered, "I make $50 an hour."
Tommy’s face lit up. "Wow! Dad, can I borrow $25?"
Jack was irritated. "Are you asking just to buy some silly toy? Go to bed, Tommy! Stop wasting my time."
Tommy’s smile disappeared. He lowered his head and quietly walked back to his room.
Later that night, Jack felt guilty. Maybe he had been too harsh. So he went to Tommy’s room, sat beside him, and softly said, "Hey, son, I'm sorry for earlier. Here’s the $25 you asked for."
Tommy’s face brightened. "Thank you, Dad!" he said excitedly.
Then, to Jack’s surprise, Tommy reached under his pillow and pulled out some crumpled bills. He carefully counted them, then looked up at his father with joy. "Dad, I wasn’t asking for a toy. I already saved $25. Now, with this, I have $50. That means I can buy one hour of your time. Please come home early tomorrow so we can have dinner together."
Jack was speechless. His eyes filled with tears. He hugged his son tightly and realized how much he had been missing out.
Lesson from the Story
Sometimes, we get so busy with work that we forget what truly matters—our loved ones. Money can always be earned, but time with family is priceless. So, no matter how busy life gets, always make time for the people who love you.
